Suspect arrested after walking into a Midtown grocery store armed with a bb gun

A suspect has been arrested after he walked into a Midtown Montgomery grocery store with a bb gun.

Sgt. Tina McGriff tells Action 8 News that around 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, officers responded to the 3000 block of Zelda Road in reference to a person believed to be armed.

While MPD doesn’t disclose the names of businesses, an eyewitness tells Action 8 News that it was the Publix.

Once officers arrived, they found an adult male suspect in possession of the bb gun.

While taking the suspect into custody, Sgt. McGriff said the suspect struck an officer.

The unidentified suspect has been charged with harassment and placed in the city jail.

MPD says there was no immediate threat to the public as there was an officer present at the location prior to the initial call.
