2 dead, 4 injured in Thomasville multi-vehicle crash; suspect in custody

Two people are dead and four others injured in a multi-vehicle wreck in Clarke County.

Thomasville police say the wreck happened around 11:51 a.m. Tuesday on Highway 43 and South Industrial Park Drive.

Officials say a loaded semi truck and trailer struck four vehicles from behind that were stopped for a red light.

The driver of the first vehicle. 37-year-old Ashley Marie Springer McDonald, was hit by the truck. Police say McDonald was pronounced dead on the scene.

The driver of the second vehicle, identified as 53-year-old Woodie Earl Beck III, was also pronounced dead on the scene.

The Alabama Independent School Association confirms that Beck was a coach at Wilcox Academy in Camden.

Police say four others were transported by ambulance and privately owned vehicles to Grove Hill Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries and later released.

Officials say the semi truck is owned by 4 US TRANSPORTATION COMPANY in Chicago and was occupied by 45-year-old Andril Dmyterko, of Philadelphia, PA, and 31-year-old Denys Kucher, of Warminister, PA. Both men are currently in the U.S. on work Visas.

Dmyterko, who was the driver at the time of the accident, has been charged with two counts of vehicle manslaughter and is currently in the Clarke County Jail.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
