Man dead in officer-involved shooting in Bullock County

A man is dead following an officer-involved shooting in Bullock County.

The State Bureau of Investigation tells Action 8 News that around 12:01 p.m. Tuesday, an ALEA Trooper attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Alabama Highway 51.

The driver of the vehicle, 33-year-old Jemmie Earl Hicks, Jr., of Midway, refused to stop and a pursuit started.

SBI says the vehicle eventually stopped on Bullock County 106 near Flower Garden Road, where Hicks exited the vehicle and fled on foot into a wooden area.

Over the course of the incident, SBI says Hicks was injured by gunfire and the Trooper immediately rendered first aid; however, Hicks died from his injuries on the scene.

Officials say SBI is investigating and once complete, the findings will be turned over to the Bullock County District Attorney’s Office.
