NFL draft pick honored at Montgomery City Council

A former football player at Montgomery’s Sidney Lanier High School is being honored by the Montgomery City Council for being selected in this year’s NFL draft.

Jacory Croskey-Merritt was honored at last night’s city council meeting with a proclamation sponsored by City Council member Orande Mitchell.

As a boy, he said, playing football and making friends is what got him into the game.  His mother says he always stayed humble and respectful when he was young. and was very dedicated to everything he did.

Croskey-Merritt was selected as the 245th overall pick by the Washington Commanders.

“This is something I wanted, to go pro in and not just watching guys on TV.  I’m like, ‘Man, that could be me one day.’ So like ever since I was young, this just always has been my goal,” he told Action 8 News.

“We just wanted to make sure that we were always supporting our kids,”  Charleighdia Merritt, his mother, said.

Croskey-Merritt played football at Alabama State before being drafted to the NFL from the University of Arizona.
