Montgomery Police Department remembers fallen officers

The Montgomery Police Department held a memorial service to remember fallen officers as well as to honor their families..

The memorial service was held at police headquarters on North Ripley Street last night.

Families and friends of fallen officers as well as other members of the community came to pay their respects.

Montgomery Mayor Steven Reed along with several others spoke as the city honored those who gave their all to protect and serve the city of Montgomery.

“John 15:13 tells us, ‘Greater love hath no man than this, than a man lay down his life for his friends,;” Montgomery Police Chief James Graboys told the crowd.

“To know that there were people before me and that there are people beside me that have made the commitment to serve in a way that may mean to give their lives. That’s a serious thing,” Montgomery Police Sgt. Tina McGriff told Action 8 News.

“And it takes a special person to do something like that. I fully understand that it’s a possibility that we could maybe have to add a new name to that monument, and it could be someone standing next to me, or it could be me. And so it’s sobering, but I’m so thankful,” she said.
