Tuskegee police have made an arrest in an ongoing burglary investigation as it seeks information about other recent break-ins.

Police say they were called to a possible burglary in progress in the 300 block of West Martin Luther King Highway at around 10PM on Saturday, May 10. When they arrived, they say they found damage to the business but the burglar had left the scene.

They say they found the suspect, 31-year-old Josha Slaughter of Tuskegee, at a nearby business and took him into custody.

Police say Slaughter was involved in a prior burglary at a business in the 200 block of West Martin Luther King Highway.

He has been charged with burglary in the third degree, criminal mischief and two counts of theft of property in the third degree.

Meanwhile, on Thursday, May 15, police say they detained a man, called a “person of interest” in the area of Railroad Street and Crawford Street whom they believe may be involved in the burglaries. They say they discovered he had multiple warrants from other law enforcement agencies. He was taken into custody and is being held for another agency.

Police say there have been six businesses hit by burglars in May. They are working to identify additional suspects.
