Golf tournament held in memory of Auburn boy who died of rare genetic brain disease

More than 100 golfers hit the links for a good cause and to remember the life of a young Auburn boy.

The Austin First Foundation held its 3rd annual Aces Fore Austin charity golf tournament yesterday at the Robert Trent Jones Grand National Golf Course in Opelika.

The fundraiser is held in memory of Austin Terling, who passed away nearly three years ago from a rare genetic brain disease.

The nonprofit has raised nearly $50,000 since the tournament began in 2023.

“Our cause is to raise awareness and research funds for those with rare disease,” Austin’s father Anthony Terling said. “Over 1 in 10 Americans have rare disease. In Alabama alone, 8 1/2% of our population is affected by multiple different types of rare disease.”

“It’s very humbling,” Austin’s mother Lindsey Terling said, regarding the turnout for the tournament. “It shows how much  Austin and what we do impacts other people, and that’s what matters. We can’t thank you guys enough, honestly it shows when people show up, that what we are doing is making a difference, and that’s all we can ask for we just really appreciate it.”

Proceeds from the tournament benefit UAB and the Children’s of Alabama Foundation.
