Jobs Plus grant program aims to break down barriers in Selma

A new $2.3 million dollar grant program in Selma is providing employment and education assistance to people in public housing.

Waka Shagrant0520 Vo 1The Jobs Plus program aims to help break down the barriers that prevent people from becoming self-sufficient.

The program offers up to four years of childcare, transportation and other assistance — to help residents go to work or school.

The program is open to residents between the ages of 18 and 64 years old — who live in the GWC and Felix Heights complexes.

“Any barrier that you may have that stops you from working, whether it’s childcare, transportation, education any of those things, we are assisting with that,” said Jobs Plus Director Natalie Lewis.

“And with the employment part of the grant there is a four year or 48 month which ever comes first rent incentive where no matter how much money you make your rent does not increase.”
