ACTION 8 UPDATE: State escapee recaptured in downtown Montgomery

ACTION 8 UPDATE: The Alabama Department of Corrections says an escapee has been recaptured in downtown Montgomery.

State prison officials say 38-year-old Stephen Murphy was caught without incident at around 8:18 this morning at Commerce and Tallapoosa streets. That is near the Renaissance Hotel and Convention Center not far from the riverfront.

Prison officials say he had walked away from an assigned job location in Hope Hull Tuesday morning at the Frank Lee Community Based Facility/Community Work Center.

Murphy is serving consecutive 99-year sentences for robbery from Morgan County.
