City of Luverne gets law enforcement grant
The Luverne Police Department is getting a grant to help with its law enforcement efforts.
The police department is getting a $50,000 grant from the Alabama Dept. of Economic and Community Affairs. The money is part of $376,000 grant for cities and towns across South Alabama to upgrade their law enforcement equipment, as announced by Gov. Kay Ivey.
Updating police equipment is a main focus in the department to ensure all officers have everything they need to safely serve the community.
“These grants will make communities safer by helping to ensure that law enforcement officers have the tools and resources they need,” Gov. Ivey said in a statement. “I commend city and town leaders for recognizing the need for a well-equipped police force and working to secure these funds.”
The money will be used to add a second four-wheel-drive vehicle to Luverne’s police fleet.
In all, nine South Alabama cities received grants to update their police fleet. The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grants with money made available by the U.S. Department of Justice.
