Severe storms possible Sunday night, storms each day this week

Sunday was mainly dry with sunshine throughout the day. Temperatures surged into the upper 80s to low 90s during the afternoon, with some humidity to boot, giving Memorial Day weekend a true summer feel. However, showers and storms look likely late Sunday evening into Sunday night. A severe thunderstorm watch covers most of our area until 3AM. Damaging wind and hail look like the main hazards.

Storms may weaken with time and south/southeast extent. The storm prediction center places areas along and north of highway 80 in a slight (level 2/5) severe risk. The risk is marginal (level 1/5) south of highway 80. Most of the showers and storms should be gone fairly early Monday morning. Some sunshine may be in the mix during the day, but more storms look likely by Monday evening.

Some of Monday’s storms may become strong to severe, capable of damaging wind and hail. In fact, we may see another complex of storms march northwest to southeast or west to east across our area, just like Sunday evening. Monday night through Tuesday morning look relatively calm, but more storms form Tuesday afternoon and evening. Again, a few of these storms may become strong to severe, capable of damaging wind or hail.

In fact, it looks like showers and storms become scattered about during the daytime hours of Wednesday through Friday too. However, by next weekend, a cold front may finally push south and east of our area. That may finally result in drier and slightly cooler weather Saturday and Sunday, rather nice for the last day of May and first day of June.
