Community Gathers in Pink to Raise Breast Cancer Awareness at Woodmere Park

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WAKA) — Dozens of people dressed in pink gathered at Woodmere Park on Saturday for a day of food, music and education aimed at raising awareness for breast cancer.

The event — a partnership between local volunteer group Touched by Angels and the City of Montgomery’s Parks and Recreation Department — marked the city’s first breast cancer awareness gathering of the year. Attendees of all ages, including children and even pets, enjoyed food trucks, live music and local vendors while learning about the importance of regular self-exams and early detection.

The Driving Hope Mobile Mammogram Bus was on-site to provide free mammograms to eligible participants.

“Sicknesses are very difficult for families,” one volunteer said. “But we’re here as a community — as the city of Montgomery — to support you. We’re your friends, your family, and we’re here for you. If God did it for me, I know He can do it for them.”

Another volunteer emphasized the value of emotional support: “That’s what our support group is all about — Touched by Angels is here to stand by people when they’re in the middle of it. We’re there for you.”
