Grillers Compete at 11th Annual Burger Wars in Downtown Opelika
OPELIKA, Ala. (WAKA) — The grills were sizzling Saturday as cooks from across the region showcased their skills at the Opelika Rotary Club Charitable Foundation’s 11th annual Burger Wars in downtown Opelika.
Chefs competed in three divisions — Amateur Tailgater, Corporate and Pro — for trophies, prize skillets and cash awards. Food lovers sampled dozens of burgers and voted for the coveted “crowd favorite” title.
Among the highlights was a spirited relay race between the Opelika Fire Department and the Auburn Fire Department. Firefighters raced to eat a burger, finish a cake shaped like a burger, drink a gallon of water and gear up in full uniform.
Capell Howard Law Firm of Montgomery took first place in the corporate division for the second consecutive year.
Proceeds from the event will benefit local nonprofit organizations.
