Multiple rounds of storms through Monday, some could be severe

Our active weather pattern continues Sunday across central and south Alabama. The morning began with heavy rain and thunder. Some locations picked up multiple inches of rain. In the wake of the early morning rain and storms, a few severe storms moved across southwest Alabama, potentially producing hail and strong winds across Wilcox, Butler, and Covington counties. Additional strong to severe storms formed across southwest Alabama during the evening.

Isolated showers and storms were still ongoing late Sunday evening. These likely continue overnight. The storm prediction center maintains a marginal (level 1/5) severe risk Sunday night. However, most storms remain sub-severe overnight. A greater chance for severe storms comes back into play Monday. All of our area lies within a slight (level 2/5) severe risk. Damaging wind and hail look like the main weather hazards again.

Storms wind down Monday night. Models show Tuesday and Wednesday could be a bit drier, but isolated to widely scattered showers and storms remain possible. Shower and storm coverage may still remain lower Thursday and Friday too. Otherwise, this week features plenty of summer-like heat, with high temperatures in the upper 80s to low 90s and higher heat indices. Isolated to widely scattered showers and storms remain possible Father’s Day weekend.
