The current Chief Counsel for the Alabama Attorney General’s Office is vying for the top job.

Katherine Robertson is expected to announce in Birmingham Tuesday that she will run for the Republican nomination for Attorney General.

Current Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall will speak at the event.

Robertson has been chief counsel for Marshall since 2017. Before that, she worked at the U.S. Department of Justice and for former U.S. Senator Jeff Sessions.

If elected, she would be the first woman in the state’s history to hold the position.

The announcement comes after AG Marshall cannot run for another term due to term limits.

Marshall recently announced that he is running for the U.S. Senate seat after U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville announced that he will run for governor in 2026.

The Alabama Republican Primary is scheduled for May 19, 2026.
