Gov. Kay Ivey signs the Safe Alabama Public Safety package into law
Gov. Kay Ivey has ceremonially signed the Safe Alabama Public Safety Package into law.
She introduced the group of bills during her State of the State Address in February. Her goal is to make Alabama a leader in law enforcement and tackle inner-city crime.
“Fellow lawmakers and all of you standing here today, thank you for your work in passing this important public safety legislation,” Gov. Ivey said at the signing ceremony yesterday. “Alabama is sending a clear signal to law enforcement that we have their backs and a message to criminals that in Alabama, we enforce our laws.”
“You know one thing I think we’ve seen across the country is that law enforcement has come in under attack, and Alabama we’re going to make sure not only that they’re not under attack, but we have their backs as well. So I think it’s a very important piece of legislation,” Alabama House Speaker Nathaniel Ledbetter said.
