Butler County School Superintendent Joseph Eiland chosen as Alabama’s District Two Superintendent of the Year
The Alabama and Schneider Electric 2026 Superintendent of the Year Finalists are named and Butler County Schools Superintendent Joseph Eiland is among those 9 candidates eligible to be named Alabama’s 2026 Superintendent of the Year.
Superintendent Joseph Eiland is an Alabama native– born and raised in Crenshaw County. He started his teaching career in 1984 in Savannah Georgia, later moving back to the state to teach within the Butler County School System climbing the ranks to principal and now superintendent.
41 years since his first teaching position his drive for students, the community and for education has not wavered. Speaking with Mr. Eiland you clearly see his love for children and his heart to push the limits of learning.
It comes as no surprise to those who know him that he is recognized in the state of Alabama among the best.
One of nine candidates chosen from over one hundred superintendents across the state. Superintendent Eiland represents district two as its 2026 finalist for Superintendent of the Year.
Each of the nine candidates moves on to the possibility of being named Alabama’s Superintendent of the Year. An honor that comes with hard work, perseverance and one that couldn’t be accomplished alone.
Three vessels are filled with coins on his desk in homage to a favorite professor who gifted Mr. Eiland with a coffee cup that reads “Pray more worry less” with the request that each time there is a problem solved he adds a penny, that cup and other cups have been filled on Mr.Eiland’s desk many times over. Also adding to a Folgers coffee can that contains silver coins that represent gratefulness, again, filled time and time again.
Mr. Eiland’s passion for serving others is felt throughout the leadership within the Butler County Schools and isn’t taken for granted. His kind heart and love for others is made evident through his staff, teachers, administrators, students and the families in Butler County.

The 2026 Alabama Superintendent of the Year will be named during the School Superintendents of Alabama Summer Conference in Orange Beach, AL. the winner will receive a Superintendent of the Year ring and travel expenses to the National Conference on Education in Nashville, Tennessee.
