Dragon Boat Festival returns to the Alabama River in downtown Montgomery
The Montgomery Dragon Boat Festival is back on the waters of the Alabama River in downtown Montgomery for the 11th year.
The Montgomery Dragon Boat Festival is an annual community event at Riverfront Park that attracts hundreds of people. The highlight is the dragon boat races.
Long, narrow boats decorated with dragon heads and tails are paddled by teams to the beat of a drum. These races are both a competitive sport and a cultural spectacle that organizers say symbolize strength, teamwork and the spirit of the festival.
All proceeds raised will benefit River Region Trails, Inc., a non-profit working to develop pedestrian and cycling infrastructure.
