Two Montgomery women face charges after Millbrook police say they led them on a chase, which ended when they crashed.

Millbrook Police Chief P.K. Johnson said yesterday’s chase began when an officer tried to stop a car for a traffic violation at the intersection of Alabama Highway 143 and Alabama River Parkway.

Johnson said the driver refused to stop, continuing eastbound on Alabama River Parkway, reaching speeds in excess of 100MPH. He said the driver continued eastbound on Alabama River Parkway until reaching the toll bridge, where the car made a U-turn, going westbound in excess of 100MPH.

Johnson said the driver returned back through the intersection of Alabama River Parkway and Alabama Highway 143, where it nearly hit another vehicle.

That’s when Johnson said the driver lost control, hitting a power pole and guidewire.

The driver, identified as 27-year-old Anastasia Philpot was arrested. The passenger, 21-year-old Jasmyn Johnson, ran away but was quickly caught near Cathouse Marine, Johnson said.

Alabama Power had to repair damage to the power pole, which resulted in a power outage.

Philpot is charged with felony attempting to elude and reckless endangerment. Johnson is charged with attempting to elude. They are being held in the Elmore County Jail pending a bond hearing.

Johnson said a loaded gun was found inside the car.
