The Town of Pine Level reaps benefits thanks to passing of new bill

The Town of Pine Level is getting a much needed boost thanks to a bill that passed during this year’s legislative session.

House Bill 598, sponsored by Rep. Van Smith (R-Clanton), allows the town the opportunity to extend its corporate limits, especially at Exit 186 on I-65.

The passing of the bill allows the town to collect the full tax rate from businesses on both sides of the interstate.

Mayor Zachary Bigley says the money allows the town to do things like pave roads, develop parks and grow the town as they see fit.

“It just broadens our horizons, broadens our prosperity, broadens our future and allows us to have a little bit more for our citizens to have the potential that Pine Level deserves,” said Mayor Bigley.

Pine Level is currently holding public input meetings regarding its first comprehensive plan.

There will be a meeting on Thursday, June 19 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Pine Level Community Center at 116 County Road 40 East.

If you can’t make it to that one, another meeting will take place on Saturday, June 21 from 11:00 a.m. to noon at the community center as well.
