World Elder Abuse Awareness Day remembered in Montgomery

The Central Alabama Aging Consortium has held its annual world elder abuse awareness day ceremony.

Each year, victims of elder abuse are honored and recognized as the issues continue to grow nationwide.
Seniors are often financially exploited or suffer verbal and physical abuse sometimes by relatives, other times by strangers. Hundreds of cases go unnoticed or unreported as many victims are either too afraid to speak up or unaware of their rights.
“The message is that we are a solid community,” Meghan Germek, the outreach coordinator for the Central Alabama Aging Consortium told Action 8 News. “We are working together to make sure that those fraudsters, scammers and those who have used our elders are stopped and are brought to justice.”
On July 17, the Central Alabama Aging Consortium will host an Elderly Justice and Fraud Conference in Wetumpka.
