Alabama State University to build two new apartment buildings for students

Big changes are coming to Alabama State University’s campus that will impact student life.

ASU has announced the construction of two new student apartment buildings that will be built on Forest Avenue and South University Drive.

ASU President Dr. Quinton Ross said the school has been talking about this project for the past several years, and has taken more than a year to finally get to the announcement.

The two buildings combined will house more than 550 students on campus.

“Our financial position as an institution was so strong that we were able to go directly to Wall Street, and so we closed on about an $87 million dollar deal on the bond market,” ASU President Dr. Quinton Ross said.

“By expanding and improving our campus living options, we are directly addressing students’ needs and helping boost the retention rate ensuring that more students not only attend ASU, but stay and graduate from the Alabama State University,” Student Government Association President Dejuan Trotman said.

“These new residence halls are not just buildings, they are launching pads for dreams, connections and success stories. Our students asked and President Ross, you answered,” Dr. Malinda Swoope, the vice president of student affairs, said.

Construction on the apartment buildings is expected to be finished in the spring of 2027.
