Winn-Dixie on Carter Hill Road to change to ALDI

The Winn-Dixie on Carter Hill Road in Montgomery will soon close its doors, but not for long.

Officials with Southeastern Grocers tell Action 8 News that the location will be converted to a new ALDI store.

ALDI bought the Winn-Dixie chain in 2023 with plans to convert some stores into its own brand.

Earlier this year, ALDI decided to sell around 170 stores back to the group that includes Winn-Dixie’s CEO and President Anthony Hucker and the company’s supply chain partner C&S Wholesale Grocers.

The location on Carter Hill Road is expected to close in mid-July.

No word on when the new ALDI will reopen. With this new store, ALDI will have three locations in Montgomery, while Winn-Dixie, which had been a dominant grocery chain in the city, will be down to two.
