Equal Justice Initiative remembers Juneteenth and plans for big musical event in October
The Montgomery-based Equal Justice Initiative commemorated Juneteenth with a choir concert.
Hundreds of people gathered at EJI’s Peace and Justice Center Auditorium to listen to uplifting and powerful songs performed by the Jason Max Ferdinand Singers Choir.
The celebration also featured remarks about the importance of Juneteenth from EJI’s founder Bryan Stevenson, who also had a big announcement to make.
“In October, we will be having another musical event, and this is going to be really, really spectacular. The great cellist Yo-Yo Ma — considered one of the greatest in the world — is going to perform with someone who many believe is the greatest saxophone player in the world, jazz saxophone player Branford Marsalis. They are going to come together and do music in this space, and we are so excited about that and our goal is to keep bringing artists and performers from around the world to Montgomery.”
