Pine Level Rallies to Restore Iconic Community Center

PINE LEVEL, Ala. (WAKA) — Residents of Pine Level in Autauga county are joining forces to raise money to restore a beloved local landmark.

The Pine Level Community Center, a 96-year-old building that once served as a schoolhouse, has been in need of a new roof for several months. The aging structure suffers from significant leaks during rainstorms, which have caused paint damage to some of the original wooden ceilings. Repairs are expected to cost around $50,000.

On Saturday, the community center hosted a homemade jambalaya sale to help fund the roof replacement.

“The community center is 96 years old. It is an icon in this community and has always been one,” said Michael Lee Petty, director of the Pine Level Community Center. “Our goal is to bring the community back together in this center and offer things that help gather people.”

The next fundraiser will feature barbecue sandwich sales during the town’s Independence Day parade on July 4.
