Students bike from Wisconsin to Montgomery to help promote unity and understanding

Eight high school students finished their journey in Montgomery after a nearly two week journey on the road.

The Riders for Race Amity is a cycling initiative that is aimed to foster unity, understanding and friendship among people of all backgrounds.

The cross country trip started in Madison, WI on July 13 and arrived Monday afternoon in the Capital City.

As part of their ride, the students made several stops in cities, like Saint Louis, Nashville, Huntsville, Birmingham, Selma and many others.

Organizers say it is more than just a test of endurance. They say it is a movement dedicated to bridging racial divides through dialogue, education and shared experiences.

As they traveled from city to city, riders had the opportunity to visit historical landmarks, engage in service projects, and participate in discussions centered around race amity.

The students will be in Montgomery until June 27. During their time here, they’ll visit all three Equal Justice Initiative museums.

The long-distance ride will wrap up this weekend in Atlanta.
