Camp ASCCA sent campers home after lightning struck and set fire to their dining hall
During a storm that rolled over Tallapoosa County Sunday evening, Camp ASCCA was signing in their campers for the week when lightning suddenly struck a tree then bounced to the roof of the dining hall. Smoke started to billow from the building and camp counselors rushed to get the campers to safety.
After the fire was put out, immense damage was discovered in the dining hall but nobody was injured. This week’s camp activities have been suspended until further notice. ASCCA directors and counselors are working hard to get the camp up and running again by next Sunday.
ASCCA has started a fundraiser to help cover the damage repairs and has already raised over thousands of dollars. If you’re interested in helping, you can visit their fundraiser link.
