Hayneville police investigator speaks out about police chief

From the West Alabama Newsroom–

A Hayneville police investigator is speaking out — after she finds herself caught in the middle of an ongoing dispute — between the chief of police — and a municipal judge.

Investigator Deardra Pinkett is raising concerns about the conduct of Hayneville police chief Kelvin Mitchell.

“I just want the public to know what’s going on,” said Pinkett.

Waka Hvillepd0630 PkgPinkett says Mitchell ordered her not to provide security in municipal court — following a disagreement he had with the judge — over a court case involving the Lowndes County Commission and the Lowndes County Sheriff.

She was then ordered to secure the courtroom by Mayor Jimmie Davis — which she did.

“Mitchell called myself and Mayor Davis into his office for a meeting and stated that he was suspending me for three days without pay for not following his order,” said Pinkett.

Davis reinstated Pinkett and plans to take the issue before the town council.

“The town of Hayneville has to supply security for the court system. And I directed her to do so,” said Davis.

Pinkett held a press conference about the matter — Monday morning at Hayneville Town Hall where she also claimed there were guns missing from the police department — and that Mitchell’s behavior towards her — had become aggressive.

We contacted Chief Mitchell about the allegations and concerns raised by Investigator Pinkett. He was not available to speak with us on camera — but says he plans to do so after conferring with his attorney.
