Folks flock to fireworks stores to celebrate July 4

Local fireworks stores are seeing plenty of customers who are getting ready for 4th of July celebrations.

Action 8 News went to Big Daddy’s Fireworks, which has been a staple in Wetumpka for 23 years. Workers say their fireworks stock gets bigger every year, and this year, they are all stocked. You can even use your cell phone to see how fireworks will look when you set them off.

Setting off fireworks can be dangerous. Big Daddy’s always reminds customers to follow the safety rules on the packages as they get ready for their activities.

“We tell them when they come in, there’s not one thing in the store that you need to hold in your hand, nothing, and we talk to  them about making sure they have water close by when you’re finished with shooting them off. Don’t stack them all up together or anything like that unless you’ve watered them down first,” Faye Mansel of Big Daddy’s Fireworks told Action 8 News.

One customer has a different kind of celebration in mind as he shops.

“Actually this isn’t even for the Fourth of July. I’m having a going-away party because I leave for the Navy on July 2, so I really wanted to just go out with a bang and really just have a great time with my family before I leave out for basic training,” customer Tristan Davis said.

Before you set off fireworks, you need to check your local ordinances. Setting off fireworks in the city limits of Montgomery is illegal without a permit.
