Less rain, more heat Thursday and Independence Day weekend
Afternoon shower and storm coverage was finally lower for a change on Wednesday. Only isolated showers and occasional storms formed near highway 80 during the afternoon. They gradually drifted south through the early evening, then faded away. They formed in advance of a “cold” front, which moved into far south Alabama Wednesday evening. The rest of Wednesday night looks partly cloudy and dry with lows in the low 70s.
The front may result in hotter temperatures Thursday through the Holiday weekend. That’s due to drier air behind the front heating up more efficiently. Drier air also means fewer showers and storms, so less afternoon heat relief from rain. High temperatures reach the mid 90s in at least some locations Thursday through Sunday. High temperatures may return to the low 90s each day next week, while rain chances could stay low through Friday.
