NFL player, Montgomery City Council members team up for backpack giveaway
Some Parents in Montgomery lined up to receive a special gift from NFL player Jereme Robinson and two Montgomery City Council members.
Robinson, a native of Montgomery, who plays for the Chicago Bears and Montgomery City Council members Oronde Mitchell and Franetta Riley were able to give parents some relief for this upcoming school year.
Yesterday outside the old Calhoun Foods grocery store on Fairview Avenue, they gave out backpacks and school uniforms to students who attend Carver Elementary, TS Morris Elementary and Peter Crump Elementary.
“The reason I do this is because I’ve gotten so much help, especially when I was younger,” Robinson told Action 8 News. “I lived right back here at Wares Ferry, so I know when help is needed and I have partnered with council members Mitchell and Riley. They have organized all of this and made it seamless for me.”
“We decided that we know the school system requires the children to have a clear backpacks, so we wanted to make sure that they had a backpack and some uniform shirts so that their parents will have a lighter load of equipment that they need to buy for their children on their school supply list, Riley said.
They were able to give out 300 backpacks.
