Two arrested in Wetumpka shooting
Two men are in custody in connection to a shooting in Wetumpka.
According to court documents obtained by Action 8 News, officers were called around 2:30 a.m. Monday to the 700 block of Government Street.
Once they arrived, they found an adult male victim with a gunshot wound.
The victim told police that he was shot by robbed by two or three males before being shot.
While being treated on the scene, the victim told police that the incident happened a couple of blocks over and that’s where his vehicle was located.
Authorities determined that the shooting happened in the 50 block of North Street.
While on the scene officers notified of a second gunshot victim at Elmore Community Hospital. Once there, they came in contact with 18-year-old Deshaun Benson, of Wetumpka.
Officers determined that Benson wasn’t a victim in this case. He was arrested the same day and charged with first degree robbery and first degree assault.
Additionally, officers arrested 18-year-old A’Marious Johnson, of Wetumpka.
Court records do not specify Johnson’s role in connection to the crime, but he was also charged with first degree robbery.
According to court records, Benson and Johnson knowingly arranged to meet the victim through Snapchat with the intent to commit a robbery by holding the victim at gunpoint and stealing his narcotics.
Both men are in the Elmore County Jail.
