Montgomery Police reinstates program to put more officers on the streets
The Montgomery Police Department is bringing back an old program to help put more officers on the streets.
The Early Hire Program is used as an approach to recruitment. It offers a pathway for individuals to begin their law enforcement careers without having to wait until the next Police Academy.
Officials say the program allows them to immediately start working in non-sworn positions, providing essential support across various departments.
In addition to contributing to the department’s work, the program allows for early fitness training, enables the early hires to have a better understanding of the daily operations and gives them a sense of teamwork.
People in the Early Hire Program perform clerical and runner duties while also being required to maintain physical fitness prior to the Academy.
Early Hires automatically transition to Police Officer Trainee status on the first day of their scheduled Police Academy.
In order to enroll in the program, an individual must be at least 19 years of age, a United States citizen and possess a high school diploma or GED.
