Montgomery Police Department announces new chief of staff

The Montgomery Police Department has announced that Ettice Brickus will be its new chief of staff.

Brickus brings nearly 24 years of experience in law enforcement, according to a news release from the City of Montgomery.

Brickus most recently served as deputy chief of the Neighborhood Patrol Division for the police department in Baltimore, Maryland.

She will be second in command to Police Chief Jim Graboys, overseeing day-to-day operations, policy development, budget administration and strategic management.

“Chief Brickus brings a deep well of knowledge, integrity, and forward-thinking leadership to our department,” Graboys said. “Her passion for community-based policing and commitment to professional excellence makes her the right leader at the right time for Montgomery.”

“I am honored to serve the people of Montgomery and to support the men and women of the Montgomery Police Department,”  Brickus said. “My mission is to foster a culture of professionalism, transparency, and public service while continuing to build strong relationships with our residents and community stakeholders.”

Her experience includes neighborhood patrol, investigations, special events, secondary employment, recruitment, juvenile and adult intake and records management. She has knowledge in administrative operations, infection control protocols and strategic planning, according to the department.

Brickus has a doctoral candidacy at Gwynedd Mercy University and multiple degrees from The Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore City Community College and the University of Maryland University College. She has training from Cornell University and the Senior Management Institute for Policing.

She is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives, FBI LEEDA and the Police Executive Research Forum.
