The Chilton County Sheriff’s Office says a 7-year-old boy has died after a dog attack yesterday evening.

The Sheriff’s Office says deputies were dispatched around 6:10 P.M. in the area of County Road 147 near Calera. When deputies arrived, they found the boy suffering from serious injuries as a result of an attack by one or more dogs.

The child was taken to the hospital for treatment, where he later died.

“Our hearts are broken for the child and the family affected by this unimaginable loss,” says Sheriff John Shearon. “We are fully committed to a thorough investigation to determine how this tragedy occurred and to help prevent anything like this from happening again.”

An investigation followed to determine whether the animals involved were stray or domesticated and under someone’s ownership.

The Sheriff’s Office later located the dogs involved in the attack. Chilton County Animal Control responded promptly and has secured the animals.

The owner of the dogs is cooperating fully with the Chilton County Sheriff’s Office as the investigation continues.

The Chilton County Sheriff’s Office urges all residents to ensure their pets are properly secured and to follow local animal control laws

Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
