Wife of former U.S. Senator Richard Shelby dies

We have sad news from the Alabama political world. The wife of former U.S. Senator Richard Shelby has died.
Dr. Annette Nevin Shelby had roots in Kinston, which is in rural Coffee County in South Alabama.
U.S. Senator Katie Britt said of her, “Dr. Shelby’s brilliance, grit, and determination showed in everything she accomplished. She forever changed the lives of countless students.”
Britt said she is fortunate to count herself as one of those whom Dr. Shelby mentored and encouraged. Britt once worked for Sen. Richard Shelby.
U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville released this statement:
“Anyone who knows Dr. Annette Shelby knows that she played a crucial role in Sen. Shelby’s success, yet was also incredibly accomplished in her own right. Suzanne and I send our deepest thoughts and prayers to the entire Shelby Family now and in the difficult days ahead.”
Gov. Kay Ivey released this statement:
“I was saddened to learn of Dr. Annette Shelby’s passing. She lived a remarkable, full life and was the loving wife of U.S. Senator Richard Shelby. Annette was certainly a big part of the Shelby Family service to our state. My prayers are with Senator Shelby and their family.”
Dr. Annette Shelby leaves behind Senator Shelby, their two sons and other family members.
A private family graveside service was held at Tuscaloosa Memorial Park with Rev. Lou Ann Sellers, Associate Pastor, First Presbyterian Church of Tuscaloosa officiating and Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.
