Afternoon heat becomes more intense Sunday through Tuesday
The afternoon heat was fairly standard for a late July day across central and south Alabama. High temperatures were in the low to mid 90s, with heat indices over 100° at times in some locations. Showers and storms were scattered about during the afternoon, providing substantial rain to reduce temperatures in several spots. Most of the storms faded away by 8PM Saturday. The rest of the night looks mainly dry with a clearing sky, and lows in the mid 70s.
Sunday’s heat looks more intense than Saturday, with high temperatures in the mid 90s in most locations. Meanwhile, heat indices peak near 105° across our area. A heat advisory goes into effect at 11AM Sunday and continues until 9PM Sunday. Plus, the chance for rain looks very limited. In fact, most of our area likely remains dry.
The heat could be even more intense Monday and Tuesday, with high temperatures potentially in the upper 90s each day. Afternoon heat indices could be as high as 110°. That means a heat advisory likely gets extended through Tuesday for at least part of our area. Isolated showers or storms may cool a few locations Monday afternoon or evening. It looks like storms become scattered about Tuesday and for the rest of the week. The heat gradually falls through next weekend.
