Ivey Announces Over $25.9M for Economic Development in 15 Alabama Communities

Gov. Kay Ivey announced Monday that more than $25.9 million in Growing Alabama funding will support economic development projects in 15 communities across Alabama, with a significant portion directed toward sites in Central Alabama.

The funds, awarded through the 2025 Growing Alabama program, will be used to improve infrastructure at industrial parks in an effort to attract new businesses and promote long-term job growth.

“Growing Alabama is one of the most effective tools we have to strengthen our economic foundation and prepare communities — both large and small — for future growth,” Ivey said in a statement. “These investments are paving the way for high-quality jobs, business expansion and long-term prosperity across every corner of our state.”

The largest single allotment is going to the City of Prattville, which will receive $4.9 million to support site development at the Prattville South Industrial Park. The Alabama State Port Authority will receive $3.55 million to continue work on the Montgomery Intermodal Container Transfer Facility in Montgomery County.

Other Central Alabama projects include:

  • Lake Martin Industrial Development Authority: $2 million for site improvements
  • Craig Field Airport & Industrial Authority in Selma: $1.26 million
  • Opelika Innovation & Technology Park: $921,310
  • South Dallas Industrial Park: $186,025

The Renewal of Alabama Commission approved the allocations as part of a broader plan to stimulate economic growth, particularly in rural and underserved areas.

“This funding allows local leaders to fast-track site preparation and compete for game-changing economic development projects,” said Alabama Department of Commerce Secretary Ellen McNair.

The 2025 Growing Alabama program provides state tax credits to taxpayers who contribute to approved economic development organizations. Donors receive a tax credit equal to the value of their contribution, which is then used to fund qualifying projects statewide.
