A correctional officer at the Julia Tutwiler women’s prison in Elmore County has been arrested, according to state prison officials.

The Alabama Department of Corrections says Avion Dixon has been charged with one count of using his official position for person gain and two counts of fraudulent use of a credit card.

Prison officials say the arrest followed an investigation into the unauthorized use of a state-issued gas card assigned to the
ADOC. The investigation determined that Dixon used the card on multiple occasions, across several counties, to fuel his personal vehicle.

Dixon was taken into custody and has resigned from his position at the prison.

The investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be pending, ADOC said.
