Two-A-Days: Benjamin Russell
Following a 5-6 season a year ago, the Benjamin Russell Wildcats have a new head coach. Kirk Johnson takes over the program after leading the Catholic Knights to back to back state titles.
According to Johnson, upon his arrival at Benjamin Russell there was already a wealth of talent within the program; this included Alabama wide receiver commit Cederian Morgan.
“They had a lot of talent. You know coaches coach all their life and don’t get the opportunity to coach a five star, so you’ve got kids like that and there’s others, people that can go out and make plays for you,” says Johnson.
On the other hand, players are also excited for the arrival of their new coach, as they are hopeful he can lead them to a championship.
“When he first got here, I talked to him, I already heard about him and knew about him, but I just feel like we had a good coach coming in that had the experience that has been to where we’re trying to get to,” explains Morgan.
The Wildcats kickoff their 2025-26 campaign on Friday, August 22nd at Opelika.
