Ground broken on Wetumpka YMCA expansion project
The YMCA of Greater Montgomery has officially broken ground on a major expansion project in Wetumpka.
The $1.3 million project will include a new wellness center, group exercise rooms, a “Y-Town” play facility for kids, and much more.
Leaders say the Wetumpka YMCA is seeing a record amount of growth in its programs and say this new center will help rejuvenate the experience for its members.
“For us to be able to expand the services we offer here, to be able to expand the amount of people we can truly hold in the YMCA through all of the unique programs, you know? It’s exciting for us,” said AJ Hernandez, President of the YMCA of Greater Montgomery. “We saw the need in Wetumpka, we saw the growth in Wetumpka, and so for us, we wanted to invest in the Y’s resources into this project and really kick off this massive continuation of impact in Wetumpka.”
Leaders say they’ve almost met their fundraising goal by raising more than a million dollars so far.
The expansion is expect to be complete by May 2026.
