Two-A-Days: PCA Football

The Prattville Christian Academy Panthers looking to turn around a struggling football program under new leadership.

After finishing 3-7 last season, the Panthers hired Shane Moye as their new head coach. Moye brings impressive credentials, having won three state AISA titles at Lowndes Academy.

The new PCA football coach has already made a significant impact on the program’s culture. Ninety percent of players attended workouts throughout the year, and 60 kids have shown up for the program — the largest turnout PCA has seen in years.

“I just really liked what they stood for,” Moye said. “I don’t know a lot of places that I would have left for except PCA. The opportunity was good for me and my family. Also, the challenge of building a program that hadn’t been successful. For 26 years, they’ve only had two winning seasons. The idea of putting my stamp on it, and my coaching staff’s stamp on it, was the biggest reason.”

The Panthers haven’t experienced sustained success in decades, making Moye’s challenge significant. However, players, even the older ones, have embraced the changes he’s made.

“He changed everything. Everything’s a lot harder,” said Carter Copeland, a senior center and linebacker. “He’s hardcore, but we know he loves us.”

Senior wide receiver and H-back Blake Bowman echoed similar sentiments about the program’s transformation.

“Workouts are a lot harder. They’re tough, they’re explosive, a lot more for football, instead of just basic working out,” Bowman said. “It’s awesome. He really does change programs. He’s changed this program so much already and he hasn’t been here for a few months, and he just makes a big impact.”
