Two-A-Days: Reeltown Football

The Reeltown football team enters the season as defending state champions after dominating Tuscaloosa Academy 49-13 in last year’s Class 2A title game.

The Rebels return several key players from that championship squad, including junior quarterback Jamarkius Smith, who was named 2A MVP. Also back are wide receiver Alijah Woods and running back Traylen Roberts.

Woods, now a junior, believes last year’s championship experience will benefit the team’s confidence this season.

“Playing in state, you know, it’s always a crazy experience, especially as a sophomore. Like being on the sideline, my first time ever going to state at school,” Woods said. “But playing in it, the experience you get with it and the feeling, that’s all exciting. So carrying that into this season, a lot of our players that played in the state championship are going to be crazy confident. It’s not going to be like we just started off starting because the state championship — that’s all you need, really, to play in to have a lot of confidence.”

However, senior offensive and defensive lineman Cason Kelley emphasized the team can’t rely solely on past success.

“At the same time, you got to move past that and move on to this year,” Kelley said. “We ain’t did nothing this year yet. We just gotta keep working and do what we do.”

The Rebels will look to become repeat champions when the playoffs conclude in December.
