A new grant will help an auto equipment maker build a plant to create jobs in Macon County.

A $433,000 grant from the Appalachian Regional Commission, a federal-state partnership, will provide sewer services necessary for Shinsung NVH USA to locate in Shorter.

Shinsung, a supplier for Hyundai, Kia and other automakers, is building a warehouse just north of Interstate 85 which is expected to create 35 jobs.

Gov. Kay Ivey announced the grant, which will be combined with a $432,000 Community Development Block Grant awarded earlier this year.

“Alabama’s economic climate and an eager workforce continue to be strong magnets for attracting automobile manufacturers and suppliers,” Gov. Ivey said. “I commend the town of Shorter and Macon County for their hard work in landing these and other types of industries in their area.”

Shinsung produces insulation and other parts for automobile frames to help reduce noise and vibration in vehicles, resulting in a smoother and more comfortable ride.

The Appalachian Regional Commission is an economic development agency of the federal government and 13 state governments. The agency’s mission is to innovate, partner and invest to build community capacity and strengthen economic growth in Appalachia to help the region achieve socioeconomic parity with the nation. Thirty-seven Alabama counties, including Macon County, are part of the ARC region and eligible for funds.
