Legendary musicians to perform at EJI concert in Montgomery

Two legendary musicians will be performing together in Montgomery this fall, in a unique and extraordinary concert organized by the Equal Justice Initiative.
EJI has brought many celebrated musicians to the Capital City through its Art and Justice series.
As Action 8 News reported in June, acclaimed saxophonist Branford Marsalis and cellist Yo-Yo Ma will be performing together for one night only on October 11 at the Peace and Justice Memorial Center.
EJI Founder Bryan Stevenson says Marsalis came to Montgomery as part of EJI’s classical music concert series in 2024 and was so inspired by the sites, that he wanted to come back.
Stevenson says the evening will be even more special because Marsalis will debut three new pieces of music that he wrote specifically for the occasion.
“We’re very thrilled to be bringing them to Montgomery and Bradford has written original music that they will be playing together on the night of the concert,” Stevenson told Action 8 News. “It will be sort of a world premiere of this music – their first time collaboration. And I think it will be a real treat for Montgomery to have these phenomenal artists in our city.”
