Opelika police say they’ve arrested a married couple on child sex-related charges.

Police say they recently began investigating allegations of sexual abuse that occurred more than 15 years ago. They say the victims, now adults, recently came forward to report abuse that they experienced as children over a period of several years.

Police say detectives and the Lee County SWAT Team conducted a search warrant at a home in Beauregard yesterday. That’s where 64-year-old Michael Earl Adams and his wife, 56-year-old Malissa Denise Jolley Adams, were arrested on charges related to this case.

They say Michael Adams was arrested on charges of first degree rape, two counts of first degree sodomy, two counts of sexual torture and two counts of sexual abuse of a child less than 12 years old.

Malissa Adams was arrested for two counts of sexual abuse of a child less than 12 years old and first degree sodomy, police say.

They are both being held at the Lee County Detention Center awaiting an Aniah’s Law hearing.

This case remains under investigation by the Opelika Police Department.
