Only on 8: Political Analyst Steve Flowers discusses races for U.S. Senate, Lt. Governor and Attorney General
ONLY ON 8: Our Action 8 Political Analyst Steve Flowers is sharing his expertise on the races for U.S. Senate, Lieutenant Governor and Attorney General.
Those will be among the most hotly-contested races next year because Flowers believes U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville will have few if any obstacles in winning the governor’s race.
That leaves his U.S. Senate seat open. The top candidates in that race are current Attorney General Steve Marshall and current First District Congressman Barry Moore. Both are Republicans. Flowers says while Marshall may have double the name recognition because he holds a statewide office, Moore will likely have the support and money of the Club for Growth. Flowers says the two candidates are no different from each other philosophically.
Other candidates in that race are Republican Jared Hudson and Democrat Kyle Sweetser.
Another big race is for lieutenant governor, which will also be an open seat because Lt. Gov. Will Ainsworth can’t run again due to term limits. The top candidates are current Agriculture Commissioner Rick Pate and Secretary of State Wes Allen, both Republicans. Flowers says both of them are popular and both have won two statewide elections. He believes this race will come down to money and who can get himself on TV the most.
Other candidates in this race are Republicans Patrick Bishop, Dean Odle and Nicole Wadsworth.
There is currently a three-way race for attorney general. Incumbent Steve Marshall can’t run for that office again due to term limits. Republicans Pamela Casey, Jay Mitchell and Katherine Robertson are seeking the office. Flowers notes that Mitchell, who served on the Alabama Supreme Court, has won a statewide race for that position. However, he said Robertson has had an injection of more than $1 million from a political group. Casey, he said may be the most qualified, but may face a lack of money.
