New Coca-Cola mural in Wetumpka honors company and history
A new mural in downtown Wetumpka honors Coca-Cola and brings back a cherished piece of the city’s history.
The mural, which features the Coca-Cola script logo, is a tribute to days gone by, when such advertising murals on the sides of buildings were common in towns across the South.
A ribbon-cutting was held for the mural yesterday at 100 Company Street.
Main Street Wetumpka, in partnership with the Coca-Cola United Bottling Company, brought this piece of history back to life.
The mural will bring back memories for those who remember its original form and creates a sense of nostalgia and pride for the entire community.
“We are looking for projects like this,” Andy Britton, the director of public affairs and communications for Coca-Cola United Bottling Company, told Action 8 News. “We’ve already produced projects like this in Quincy, Florida; Waverly, Alabama; Calera, Alabama and Panama City, so we are looking for communities to have original murals. The folks from Main Street Wetumpka reached out to us. We did about a year’s worth of research, secured the funding and we were able to unveil the project.”
Coca-Cola’s artist went to Wetumpka over the Labor Day weekend to paint the mural.
