Montgomery Fire/Rescue investigators say a man has died in a house fire.

Assistant Chief Stanley Cooper said at around 10:30 last night, firefighters were called to a report of a grass fire in the 300 block of Bowling Green Drive. That’s in a neighborhood between Atlanta Highway and Wares Ferry Road, behind Eastmont Baptist Church.

When they arrived, Cooper said they found the back of a single-story house was on fire, with flames showing. He said they were told there might be a person inside.

They found a 56-year-old man unconscious inside and brought him outside the home to perform lifesaving measures. Cooper said despite the work of an ER doctor from Baptist Medical Center South, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. His name hasn’t been released.

An investigation in underway into what started the fire.
