A multi-million dollar road project is underway in Dallas County on a portion of the National Historic Trail near Selma.

Us 80 Resurfacing ScaledThe Alabama Department of Transportation is resurfacing about a nine mile stretch of U.S. Highway 80.

The project includes repaving — guardrail installation — and traffic striping — from the historic Edmund Pettus Bridge — to County Road 43.

County officials are urging motorists to be patient — plan for delays — and drive with care — while the project is underway.

“It will mean some level of inconvenience while the work is going on,” said Dallas Co. Engineer Anthony Crear.

“But the citizens I’m sure will appreciate the much smoother ride and the safety improvements that I imagine will be a part of that project.”

The $5.4 million project is expected to be completed by Spring 20-26.
